New to Pilates... FAQs

Everything you need to feel confident before your first class.

I’m a complete beginner. Is Pilates right for me?

Absolutely! Pilates is a welcoming, low-impact workout designed for everybody and experience level. Your instructor can tailor movements to meet you where you are, helping you build confidence, strength, and control at your own pace. Start with a foundation or introductory class and discover just how good mindful movement can feel.

Mat Pilates uses your body weight to strengthen your core and improve mobility, while Reformer Pilates adds spring-based resistance and support for a dynamic, full-body workout. Both styles help you move better, feel stronger, and become more flexible—so you can choose the experience that suits you best.

Yes. Grip socks help you move safely and confidently by providing extra traction, while also keeping shared equipment hygienic. Don’t have a pair yet? Most studios have stylish options available to purchase at reception.

For noticeable, lasting progress, aim for two to three classes per week. With consistency, you may begin to feel stronger, more stable, and more connected to your body. Every class is a step towards better movement and greater confidence.

Choose comfortable, breathable activewear that lets you move freely. Bring a water bottle, a small sweat towel, and your grip socks. Shoes can be left in the designated storage area—then it’s time to switch off, step onto the mat or reformer, and enjoy your session.

Pilates can often be adapted to support different needs, including pregnancy and injury recovery. Always speak with your doctor or healthcare provider before beginning, and let your instructor know before class so they can offer appropriate modifications. Depending on your circumstances and the studio’s policy, a private session may be the safest and most personalised place to begin.
